![]() ![]() GameSpot awarded it 9/10, highlighting the "fan service" for returning players: There’s still room in the scrapbook for more adventures, and if we’re lucky, maybe we won’t have to wait 30 years for the next title." It feels like Monkey Island has fittingly come full circle with this title in many ways, and yet I can’t help but be selfish and want more Guybrush from Gilbert. Daft humour with plenty of dad-worthy gags, puzzles to both frustrate and delight you, lovable throwbacks around every corner, and all while being effortlessly enjoyable. "Return to Monkey Island is everything I wanted and more. The Gamer gave the PC version 4.5/5 stars, mentioning how it was everything you could want "and more": But as series creator Ron Gilbert returns to the series’ director’s chair for the first time since 1991, it unexpectedly offers a lot of heart, too. "Return to Monkey Island expectedly comes packed full of smartly crafted puzzles, funny dialogue, and memorable characters. Starting off with IGN, it gave the game 9/10 - summing it up as an "adventure gamer's delight": Note: Many of these reviews are for PC, we'll add some Nintendo Switch reviews in time. The critic reviews are now in, so what's the verdict? Read on to find out! Ahoy! Return to Monkey Island from is available now on Steam and Nintendo Switch!Įnjoy the unexpected and thrilling return of the legendary series and savor every minute, fellow wannabe pirates! /g7U00jvA33- Devolver Digital September 19, 2022 Yes, this the next big entry in the Monkey Island point-and-click adventure series has arrived! It sees the return of Guybrush Threepwood, witty humour and a new art style. To celebrate 'Talk Like A Pirate Day' one other title that's now available on the Nintendo Switch is Return to Monkey Island. Looking forward to going back to that world and seeing everyone in it.September has been filled with all sorts of announcements, and there have even been new games released like Splatoon 3. People accusing others of being emotional babies for not liking the art style and speaking up about it should really take a look in the mirror (not pointing at you specifically, Senj). On the first page you have someone actually hoping that someone who admitted to not liking Escape (I also couldn't stand it) and the Tales games (eh, could take or leave them) doesn't enjoy Return at all. But I guess that's just me and moderation isn't the name of the game here, not in this thread. I'm pretty much in the, "The world looks great but the characters look odd" camp myself, but I don't care enough about it to really complain or to stop me from playing and enjoying the game. Maybe the Curse look really defined Guybrush and LeChuck for a lot of people and they didn't like anything that deviated majorly from those designs? But the characters looked weird and people felt it didn't suit them. I'm sure some people took it too far and those were the loudest, but I remember seeing people react to it here and on Reddit and the consensus generally seemed to be that the art style looks great for the game world, the backgrounds looked amazing. That's just inevitable, even with a change in art style. If anyone remembers the backlash to what they did to Guybrush in the special editions, then they should have expected some negative reactions to anything that really changes what he looks like. ![]() Guybrush in particular looks pretty dire. From what I've seen, mostly the complaints were that the art style fitted the world very well but the characters not at all. Click to shrink.I think that's a bit of a simplistic take on it. ![]()
